  • What does the Donor Egg IVF procedure involve?

A donor Egg IVF cycle comprises of both, the egg donor’s cycle and the recipient’s cycle. The egg donor’s menstrual cycle is synchronized with recipient’s cycle using birth control pills. From day one or two of menses, the recipient starts a prescribed dose of estradiol valerate tablets and egg donor’s ovarian stimulation cycle is started at the same time. Once the donor’s eggs are mature, which usually happen in 11-12 days, her eggs are retrieved under anesthesia. The recipient’s partner provides his semen sample on the day of egg retrieval. The gametes are then fertilized in the laboratory. The recipient is started on luteal support medication on the day of the egg retrieval. Two to five days later 2-5 embryos are transferred with great care, under sonographic guidance, into the recipient’s uterus.

  • Can I be a recipient if I live out of town?

Your cycle can be synchronized with the donors cycle even if you are not staying in the same city/ country. You can fly down only on the day of the scheduled egg retrieval of the donor or a day prior.
